Adrift again 2011...

Starting in 2009, I've made an effort to listen to everything in my iTunes collection at least once over the course of the year. In the past, this meant listening to my library on shuffle, and randomly hearing the odd tracks that comprise the music on my computer. For 2011, though, I decided to complete this pointless task in a somewhat more organized fashion: by listening to every album in alphabetical order. Aside from hearing tracks in their "intended" sequence (yeah, I still think albums are an interesting form), this has the added benefit of not forcing me to listen to every bit of music I own from a single artist without a break. While I love Radiohead, I don't really need to listen to 18 straight hours of their music. And, yes, I have 18 hours of Radiohead on my computer. As Comic Book Guy once lamented, "Oh, I've wasted my life."

ANYWHO, as of today, there's 7630 tracks on my computer, which comes out to 20.4 days of music. It's hardly the biggest collection of music, but it's a big enough task that I'm sure I'll be scrambling to finish when December rolls around. Considering I began this in January and only recently entered the "B" albums, this could be my life's work. I also tend to get distracted by new albums and to put off listening to albums I'm dreading revisiting. Well, thanks for checking in and sharing this nostalgic, narcissistic journey...
